ROGERS PARK — One of the neighborhood's most popular park attractions was covered in a mountain of ice as the Sunday blizzard churned Lake Michigan.

Ice about 10 feet high prevented neighbors out for a stroll or walking their dogs to venture to the end of the pier Tuesday morning.

But the ice formations provided a stunning view.

When the blizzard began on Sunday, winds up to 39 miles per hour churned up waves that pounded the lakefront, creating high ice shelves in Rogers Park.

South of the pier, a shelf formed about 100 yards from shore to make something resembling a spit.

Chicago was hit with more than 19 inches of snow over the weekend.
