CHICAGO — A Jefferson Park man was shot in the neck outside Grand Bar early Saturday morning after arguing with a teen yelling gang slogans, prosecutors said.

The man, 32, was leaving the West Town bar, 1600 W. Grand Ave., shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday when he intervened in what appeared to be a fight outside, authorities said.

Someone was yelling gang slogans, prosecutors said at a court hearing Monday. The man started arguing with a teen.

The teen fled, prosecutors said. Moments later, Erick Bustos, who had not been involved in the fight, allegedly appeared with a gun.

He stood in the middle of Grand and fired a shot that hit the man in the neck, prosecutors said.

A retired Chicago police officer working security at Grand Bar witnessed the shooting and called 911, prosecutors said. He later identified Bustos as the gunman.

Bustos, previously convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, was ordered held on $1 million bail by Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. Monday.
