CITY HALL — The city is offering free Wi-Fi access to travelers at Chicago Midway and O'Hare International Airport.
Called "The Good Stuff," and made available through the Boingo mobile Wi-Fi company, the internet portal gathers more than 30 top sites, including airlines, car-rental agencies and local news agencies — including DNAinfo.com Chicago and the Tribune and Sun-Times.
"O’Hare and Midway are two of the city’s most important economic engines, and this program is a clever and innovative way to make passenger experiences more enjoyable and productive,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “This program complements many exciting things going on in the wireless space around the city of Chicago.”
It was welcomed by Rosemarie Andolino, commissioner of the Department of Aviation, which joined the city and Boingo in sponsoring the portal.
“At Chicago’s airports, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our travelers' experience by offering the best amenities and services available in the industry," Andolino said. "We understand fast, reliable and convenient Wi-Fi access is a very important part of our customers' experience. O’Hare and Midway have one of the fastest Wi-Fi networks in the country, and we are pleased to partner with Boingo to now offer free Wi-Fi access to some of the most popular websites."
The site's design is compatible with laptops, tablets and smartphones. To gain access, airport visitors should choose the Boingo Wi-Fi network and select "The Good Stuff" panel on the left side of the page.
Other sites include USA Today, the Weather Channel, Wikipedia and the Internet Movie Database, shopping sites like Nordstrom and Amazon, and banking sites for Chase and Bank of America.
