CHICAGO — President Barack Obama will be back in his adopted hometown Friday, giving an afternoon speech at Hyde Park Academy as part of his post-State of the Union tour.

Obama won't be far from his Kenwood home when he talks about the economy Friday. He plans to discuss proposals unveiled during Tuesday night's State of the Union speech "that focus on strengthening the middle class and those striving to get there."

The event will be closed to the public.

During Obama's State of the Union speech, the president recognized the parents of slain King College Prep student Hadiya Pendleton, Cleopatra and Nathaniel. They were invited guests of first lady Michelle Obama and sat next to her during the address.

Hadiya's parents "deserve a vote" in the national debate on gun control, Obama said to a standing ovation Tuesday.

Hadiya was gunned down Jan. 29 in a park about a mile from Obama's Kenwood home. The teen's death has drawn national attention, and the first lady attended her funeral Saturday.

Michael Ward, 18, and Kenneth Williams, 20, have been charged in the killing of Hadiya. They were ordered held without bond Tuesday.
