UPPER EAST SIDE — A cyclist was killed after being struck by a truck he grabbed on to while riding on Fifth Avenue outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art Wednesday evening, authorities said.
Daniel Martinez, 27, of The Bronx, was riding his bike soutbound along Fifth Avenue at East 82nd Street about 6:30 p.m. when he grabbed hold of a Ford F-550 truck, police said. At some point he fell off his bike and was hit by the truck, cops said.
He was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital and pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene, and no criminality is suspected, police added.
Witnesses said they saw emergency responders trying to resuscitate Martinez after he was hit.
The avenue remained closed to traffic more than an hour after the incident as police continued their investigation.
