BROOKLYN — Eleven people were injured when a mini-bus carrying a group of seniors overturned after crashing with a rental car in Bay Ridge Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The mini-bus was carrying seniors from the nearby Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults when it got into an accident with a Jeep on Colonial Road near 78th Street at 1:09 p.m., according to officials.
"I was so worried about the people inside," said Jenn Shannon, 41, who lives in a house overlooking the accident site. "They were pretty beaten up," she said of the elderly people she saw being removed from the back door and roof of the overturned bus.
Ten of the 11 victims had serious, but non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Lutheran and Maimonides medical centers, FDNY officials said. One victim refused medical attention.
It was unclear how many of the victims were from the van.
A person answering the phone at the Bay Ridge Center for Older Adults information said the organization did not immediately have information about the accident.
