MANHATTAN — A 63-year-old woman was hospitalized with head injuries Tuesday after she was struck by a car in the Village, FDNY officials said.

The accident happened just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and 14th Street, a fire department spokesman said.

Witnesses said they spotted the woman in the street, just outside the crosswalk, at the southeast corner of the intersection.

"Her face was bloody, she wasn't moving a muscle, and the driver looked visibly shaken up," said Brian Smith, 44, who works in a nearby jewelry shop. "He was standing over her. He looked very concerned."

The driver who hit the woman remained at the scene, fire officials said.

Police did not immediately comment on whether the driver was issued any traffic summonses.

The woman, whose name was not released, is expected to survive, FDNY officials said.
