HARLEM — A motorist was critically injured early Tuesday in a one-vehicle accident apparently caused by icy roads in Harlem, officials said.
The male victim suffered head injuries when the vehicle he was in crashed at Riverside Drive and 135th Street just after 2 a.m., fire and police officials said.
Fire officials said he was in critical condition at St. Luke's Hospital. Police said his injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no one else was injured.
The vehicle was apparently thrown off course by the slippery conditions, police said.
The city has been under a deep freeze the last few days, with temperatures regularly dipping to below 20 degrees.
