MANHATTAN — A man leaped to the rescue of a woman who wound up in the Hudson River near the Intrepid Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
According to fire sources, the Good Samaritan jumped in after the woman, near Pier 84, at 2:40 p.m.
By the time the fire department arrived minutes later, both were sitting on top of a piling underneath the pier.
The FDNY's Marine 1 unit took the woman off the piling and was evaluating her. It was not clear how she got in the water.
The man was able to climb up a ladder, provided by Ladder 21, up to the pier, which is near 46th Street.
Sources said that it appears that both were in the water, which is still fairly warm, only for a short time.
