MANHATTAN — An East Harlem man was killed by a van as he tried to cross East 125th Street Monday night, police said.

Steven Reese, 58, had been crossing the street near Lexington Avenue when he was hit by the vehicle, which was traveling east, according to the NYPD.

When emergency workers arrived shortly after 10 p.m., Reese was lying in the middle of the busy intersection. He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the van remained at the scene. No criminality was suspected, police said.

Reese was just three blocks from his home on 125th Street when the accident occurred, according to the NYPD.
