LOWER EAST SIDE — A fire broke out in a Ludlow Street apartment early Monday morning, leaving six people homeless, officials said.

The fire started in the kitchen of the home, on the top floor of a five-story apartment building at 41 Ludlow St., near Hester Street, shortly after 7:30 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

All the occupants got out safely, firefighters at the scene said. The Red Cross was on scene to help them.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Monday morning.
