SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — More than 100 people flocked to Pier 16 afternoon to demand change at the floundering Seaport Museum New York.
They waved signs reading "Save Our Ships!" and "Ship Happens!" at the demonstration Sunday.
Peter Stanford, who founded the museum in 1967, has led the call for new leadership after the museum shuttered its galleries and put half its staff on unpaid leave earlier this year.
Stanford addressed the crowd gathered under the elevated FDR Drive, urging them to stay optimistic and continue fighting for the museum's future.
The rally drew many of the museum's former employees and volunteers, including Laura Nicholas from the museum's 19th-century print shop Bowne & Co., which has been closed since February.
The group Save Our Seaport, which organized the rally, is asking those who care about the museum's future to attend Tuesday night's Community Board 1 meeting at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, 199 Chambers St., at 6 p.m.
