EAST VILLAGE — A 33-year-old man was shot Wednesday morning in the East Village and police are hunting the gunman, officials said.

The shooting occurred at 225 East 2nd Street between Avenue B and Avenue C at roughly 9 a.m., police said.

The unidentified man was shot in his abdomen, police said. His injury was not considered life-threatening, and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Officials at the scene said the shooting appeared to be the result of a dispute among family members.

The shooter fled the scene, police said.

Denis Dang, 33, who lives across the street, was in his apartment when he heard crying outside.

"I looked out the window," Dang said. "He was laying on the ground."

There was a girl standing over him wearing pajamas, Dang said.

A woman also received a gash to her head at the scene. Her injury was considered accidental, police said.

It was not clear whether her injury was related to the shooting, officials said.

The woman was seen leaving the apartment building with emergency medical officials under her own power, holding a bandage to her head.

East 2nd Street was partly closed off as police investigated the incident.
