LOWER MANHATTAN — The Vesey Street pedestrian bridge will be closed this weekend and on a handful of evenings this month, as the Port Authority makes safety improvements.

The Port is building a sidewalk shed over the bridge’s eastern approach, to protect people from the adjacent construction at One World Trade Center.

This weekend, the bridge will be shut down from 8 p.m. Oct. 15 to 5 a.m. Oct. 17, and it will also be closed other weekday nights throughout the month, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., the Port said.

The Vesey Street bridge carries thousands of residents and commuters each day over West Street’s six lanes of traffic. When the bridge is shut down, the closest at-grade crossing will be at Murray Street, just to the north.
