LOWER EAST SIDE — Spider-Man warmed up for his Broadway debut by spinning his musical web at a Lower East Side bar.
The show's front man Reeve Carney, who also heads rock band Carney, thrilled a packed house for two back-to-back shows as they played songs from their debut album at Pianos Bar, on Ludlow Street.
He's set to take the stage as webslinger Peter Parker in the Broadway musical, "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark."
“It was awesome,” said fan Larry Murphy, of the Upper West Side.
“I really enjoyed the music, the musicians were awesome, the singer is great. Everyone was really incredible.”
The rest of Carney's band will be in the orchestra pit at the Hilton Theater, on West 43rd Street, when Spider-Man opens on December 21st.
The Broadway adaptation of Marvel's beloved comic book hero will be directed by Julie Taymor, with music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and The Edge.
Carney performed a sampling of their debut album during a whirlwind media blitz, performing at Pianos Wednesday and on Good Morning America earlier in the month.
Plenty of fans said the performances are enough to get them excited about Spider-Man’s opening.
“We’re looking forward to seeing his performance,” said Samantha Quinn, from New Jersey, who was out with her family.
“I’d love to see them,” said Angela Gomez-Hodson of Connecticut.
