UPPER EAST SIDE — The Bolt Bus stops here. Hopefully.
The popular bus service, which provides routes out of Manhattan to Boston, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, wants to add the Upper East Side to its roster of pick-up locations.
Representatives from the company proposed adding a stop at East 59th Street and Lexington Avenue at the July meeting of the Community Board 8 transportation committee hearing, saying that the corner was conducive to getting Bolt Bus passengers to the pick-up location.
"We'd really like to have a location that's convenient with transportation," Timothy Stokes, a spokesman for Bolt Bus, told DNAinfo.
But the board was concerned that the intersection, which in addition to the subway already services MTA buses and the Hampton Jitney, would be overtaxed with traffic as a result.
Board members suggested moving the proposed stop to Third Avenue instead, a move that the company agreed to consider.
"We're trying to find a location that works for us as well as the community," Stokes said.
Launched in 2008 as a competitor to regional low-cost bus carriers, Bolt Bus offers affordable travel with amenities like free wi-fi and assigned seating and has locations in Chinatown and Midtown West. The line is run by Greyhound Lines and Peter Pan Bus Lines.
Bolt Bus currently picks travelers up from three Manhattan locations: 33rd and Seventh Avenue, by Sbarro; 34th and Eighth by the Tick Tock Dinner; and Sixth Avenue between Grand and Watts streets.
The company's managers were expected to update the proposal for an Upper East Side location at 59th Street and Third Avenue at the Community Board 8 transportation committee hearing Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the New York Blood Center 310 East 67th Street.
