EAST VILLAGE — A man is in critical condition after being shot twice on a busy stretch of Second Avenue early Sunday morning, police said.

The unnamed victim, 43, was shot in the chest and arm at the corner of East Fifth Street at about 4 a.m., NYPD sources said.

He was transported to Bellevue Hospital and remains in critical condition, police said.

Sources added they were not sure how many suspects were involved.

The incident occurred near the popular nightclub Sin Sin/Leopard Lounge at the corner of Second Avenue and East Fifth Street, but the club's owner said he didn't believe the people involved were inside the place at any point.

"As far as we know, they weren’t," said owner Philip Quilter.

Helen Seo, an employee at the 24-hour S.K. Deli Market two doors down from the club, said the staffer working at the deli when the shooting occurred heard gunshots and saw the victim stumble from near the corner of East Fifth Street to about midlbock.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
