FINANCIAL DISTRICT — Nearly five years after Hurricane Sandy's sent 15 million gallons of salt water, sewage and debris into the South Ferry 1 train station, the MTA reopened the facility Tuesday.
Sandy's waters destroyed all the electrical and mechanical systems and filled the entire station — from the track level to the mezzanine — a depth of 80 feet, according to the MTA.
After Sandy, the MTA reopened the Old South Ferry Station, but that has been once again taken out of service now that the new station has opened.
