ROXBURY — A baby Atlantic Gray seal is recovering after it was rescued off of a Fort Tilden beach, officials said.

The 1-year-old seal was discovered April 20 by Park Police officers riding the federal beach on horseback, who realized it needed medical assistance.

Technicians from the Riverhead Foundation responded and brought the seal back to their Long Island headquarters for treatment of a possible respiratory infection, officials said.

The seal is expected to make a full recovery and will be reunited with its other seal friends once it heals.

Washing up on a beach that's desolate in the spring may have been a wise move for the seal.

The Riverhead Foundation recommends staying at least 150 feet from any animal that hangs out on the shore — and experts speculated that the death of a seal that washed up in Rockaway Beach earlier this month could be attributed to the crowd of people around it, NY1 reported.
