A Recent History of Animals That Made a Run For Freedom in NYC (PHOTOS)

The bull who got loose in Jamaica Tuesday and led NYPD officials on a chase for several hours before eventually getting caught is just the latest Big Apple animal to make a run for it in recent years.

From a cobra that slithered out of The Bronx Zoo and a kangaroo that broke out of a Staten Island yard to a sheep that went on the lam in Brooklyn, it really is a jungle out there:

Freddie the Steer

Freddie the steer — named for Queen singer Freddie Mercury because he just wanted to "break free" — escaped from Archer Halal Live Poultry on Archer Avenue and 165th Street on Jan. 21, 2016, and ran through the streets before police finally caught him in a nearby parking garage and returned him to the slaughterhouse.

Freddie's spirited escape inspired Mike Stura, 49, of Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue in Wantage, N.J., to drive down to Queens and make an impassioned plea for his freedom, successfully convincing the slaughterhouse to release the animal to a New Jersey animal sanctuary.

On April Fools' Day last year, Frank Lee the steer got loose from Archer Halal Live Poultry, the same slaughterhouse from where Freddie went missing.

Frank led NYPD officers and college students on a wild chase through York College in Jamaica before getting corralled.

But his journey was not over, as talk-show host and comedian Jon Stewart stepped in and helped find Frank a home at the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, N.Y. The streer went on to find love with an older cow there, "Chandini," according to sanctuary staffers.

A goat escaped from a Jamaica slaughterhouse near Merrick Avenue and 180th Street on Jan. 18, 2016. Police officers from a local precinct paid $40 to save the animal and then took it to a sanctuary.

Buster the Kangaroo

This kangaroo named Buster made a run for it on Oct. 19, 2015, from the same backyard zoo where the zebra and pony broker free several years before.

The marsupial was found about 15 minutes later at Alb's Auto Repair, at 1305 Travis Ave.

A sheep escaped from a slaughterhouse in Greenwood Heights, Brooklyn, during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha on Oct. 15, 2013.

The animal ran down Third Avenue before it was recaptured and returned to the Al Noor Halal Meat Market at 149 21st St.

Razzi the Zebra

Some Staten Islanders were treated to a sight out of a safari after a zebra named Razzi and a miniature pony named Casper both escaped from a yard on Victory Boulevard and Travis Avenue on Nov. 28, 2012.

A construction worker found the animals a few blocks away and helped coax them back to their home.

This cobra slithered out of the Bronx Zoo on March 25, 2011, and evaded authorities for several days — even earning his own Twitter feed — until he was recaptured unharmed six days later.
