CHELSEA — A judge has set a trial date for the man accused of planting a pair of bombs in Chelsea, officials said.
Suspect Ahmad Khan Rahimi’s trial will start on March 27, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said Wednesday.
Rahimi, 28, was indicted earlier this month on charges including using a weapon of mass destruction for planting the two bombs on Sept. 17, one of which injured more than 30 people on West 23rd Street.
A second bomb placed on West 27th Street failed to detonate after two Egyptian tourists removed it from a suitcase and accidentally deactivated it.
Rahimi — who was captured by police officers in New Jersey two days after the bombing — has pleaded not guilty to federal terrorism and attempted murder charges.
