Home-style Oaxacan tacos were the judges' favorite fare at the city’s biggest street food competition, the Vendy Awards, on Saturday.

Tacos El Rancho, a family-run food truck serving up authentic Mexican food in Sunset Park, took home the top prize in this year's competition on Governors Island.

The taco truck bested three other food trucks for the top honors, including Gladi's Empanadas and Traditional Chinese Cuisine.

Competitor Cachapas on Wheels, which doles out Venezuelan street food, won the People's Choice award, a prize voted on by the 1,200 of hungry street-food aficionados that swarmed Governors Island for the event.

The prize for best newcomer on the street-scene went to Mr. Bing, known for its Chinese-style crepes.

The Vendy Awards, now in its 12th year, also serves as a fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a nonprofit that advocates for vendor's rights.
