UPPER EAST SIDE — New renderings showing the inside of Marymount School's planned 231-foot-tall building on East 97th Street have been unveiled — featuring a large cafeteria with a terrace and a glassy lobby.
The proposed 13-story building will also include science labs, art studio space, a kiln room, a kitchen, classrooms, study rooms and student common area, according to plans filed with the Department of Buildings on Sept. 29.
The renderings from the CookFox architecture firm show a lobby and cafeteria with floor-to-ceiling glass windows and lofty ceilings. A sun-filled chapel, with pristine white walls is also featured in the preliminary images.
Students will have access to a leafy terrace from the cafeteria. A two-story regulation-size gym with a practice court and exercise rooms, as well as a 400-seat theater are also planned for the space.
The Catholic school for girls announced in October that it would pursue a brand new building across the street from its current building at 115 E. 97th St.
Marymount's Upper School will completely vacate its old home and move into its new home once the building is complete, which is expected to happen in about three years, said school officials, adding that they plan to break ground by 2017.
