BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn man was arrested and charged following a car accident that killed his passenger in Greenpoint early Wednesday morning.

Elroy Perez, 27, was driving under the influence of alcohol and at a "high rate of speed" when he crashed a 2015 Honda Civic into the side of a tractor trailer that was pulling out of a parking lot in front of 367 Vandervoort Ave. around 6 a.m., police said.

Diana Lemache, 26, who was riding in the front passenger seat and suffered from severe head trauma, was declared dead at Woodhull Hospital, police said.

The NYPD said Perez and Lemache had been found inside the Civic, which was pinned underneath the back of the tractor trailer.

Perez, who also sustained minor injuries in the crash, was arrested by officers from the 94th Precinct.

Charges against Perez included manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, DWI, operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs, reckless driving, and speeding, the NYPD said.

Police could not immediately confirm the relationship between Lemache and Perez.

The driver of the tractor trailer remained on the scene and was not injured in the crash, the NYPD said.

The investigation remained ongoing.
