MIDTOWN — Dozens of city building inspectors and contractors were expected to be charged Tuesday in a wide-ranging bribery investigation, according to sources and a New York Daily News report.
Up to 50 defendants will turn themselves in or be arrested Tuesday in a pay-to-play scheme where inspectors took money to expedite projects or approve certificates of occupancy, according to the report and sources.
The charges are the result of a joint investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney, Department of Investigation and NYPD.
The scheme has reportedly been going on for at least several years.
Building construction is a big part of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s new affordable housing initiative.
The city plans to complete 80,000 new units by 2024.
Officials are expected to announce the arrests and charges during a 1 p.m. press conference Tuesday.
