GOVERNORS ISLAND — A pair of floppy-eared guests are making Governors Island their home this summer.
Two adorable bunnies hopped over to the island’s composting center last weekend, where they’ll munch on discarded food scraps for the rest of the season.
The bunnies — a male dwarf named Actino, or “Tino” for short, and a lop-eared female named Mycetes, or “My” — were named after Actinomycetes, a bacteria essential for decomposing, according to Earth Matters, a nonprofit that runs the Compost Outpost.
The bunnies joined the goats, chickens, worms and bees that already live at the composting center.
The center, on the far side of Governors Island near Picnic Point, is open to the public when the island is open on Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays.
