NEW YORK CITY — The checkout date for Hurricane Sandy victims currently staying in hotels in New York has been extended another 30 days, FEMA announced on Friday.

The checkout date for displaced residents was supposed to be on July 7, but the deadline was extended to August 6 for eligible residents, FEMA said.

The deadline for the end of the Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program was extended again as FEMA looks to find long-term housing solutions for residents still staying in hotels after the storm severely damaged or destroyed their homes.

Families who had major damages to their homes were put up in FEMA for free by the TSA program, which has received several deadline extensions since it started.

All TSA families in hotels will be evaluated to check continued eligibility in the program, FEMA said.
