BROOKLYN — A man accused of pushing a cop to his death in Boerum Hill last year escaped a first degree murder conviction but was found guilty of manslaughter Wednesday.
George Villanueva, 43, faces up to 30 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 23 on an aggravate manslaughter charge, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes said in a statement.
Villanueva was accused of killing Officer Alain Schaberger in March of 2011 after the two struggled on the stoop outside a Boerum Hill residence.
Schaberger was responding to a domestic violence call and was trying to arrest Villanueva at the time. But during the scuffle, the officer toppled over a railing and fell nine feet to his death.
