MANHATTAN — A plan to open the world’s largest Apple store in Grand Central Station has been abandoned, according to the New York Observer.
The Observer had previously reported that the computer and electronics giant was eyeing the historic terminal’s balconies for a 16,000-square-foot location.
But an unnamed source connected to the MTA now tells the paper that the deal has fizzled out, to the presumed delight of preservationists, according to the news outlet.
Executive Vice President and Principal of Newmark Knight Frank Retail Jeffrey Roseman also appeared to confirm the news via tweet on Thursday.
“Lets see if Apple NOT coming to Grand Central, gets as much press as it got when the rumor started,” Roseman wrote.
