MANHATTAN — An Upper West Side beauty parlor is paying up after allegedly denying 101-year-old woman service, the New York Post reported.
Mayra's Beauty Salon, on Amsterdam Avenue between West 89th and West 90th Streets, has agreed to pay $7,500 to Nettie Lobsenz, who says she wasn't allowed inside, the Post said.
Lobsenz's daughter, Juliette Gould, said she brought her then 99-year-old mother to the beauty parlor by wheelchair in April 2008; but when the pair arrived they were turned away, according to the Post.
"We got as far as the door, and this young woman said her boss won't let her in," Gould told the paper.
They went home and returned with a walker, but the salon still refused to accept Lobsenz as a client, Gould told the Post. Gould and Lobsenz brought their complaint to the city's Human Rights Commission, according to the paper.
Last week, the owner of Mayra's agreed to sign a conciliation agreement, paying $7,500 to the centenarian and agreeing to place a sign welcoming people with disabilities to the shop, though the salon did not admit any wrongdoing, the Post reported.
