MANHATTAN — Add former Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau to the list of people strongly opposed to holding the 9/11 terror trials in Lower Manhattan.

The recently retired Morgenthau said holding the trials in Lower Manhattan would bring justice in the district to a halt, according to the New York Post.

"I think it's ... absurd," he told the paper. "I think the state court system would come to a standstill."

Local politicians vowed to hold a hearing on the issue and urged the White House to find alternate sites for the trials, in a press conference Tuesday.

The trials are expected to take as long as five years to complete.
