NORTH CENTER — Just a year after opening, Knife steakhouse is done in North Center.

No notice has been posted to the restaurant's storefront, nor has an announcement been made on social media, but staff at Knife's sibling, Fork, in Lincoln Square, confirmed the steakhouse shuttered a week ago.

Open Table has ceased accepting reservations for Knife, declaring it "permanently closed."

Co-owner David Byers could not immediately be reached for additional comment.

Knife, 4343 N. Lincoln Ave., billed itself as a "Downtown steak experience on the North Side." Chef Timothy Cottini's contemporary spin on classic steakhouse fare included a wedge salad reinterpreted with grilled heads of baby iceberg lettuce and a 28-day dry-aged ribeye carved tableside.

Cottini left Knife in July and now runs Shaw's Crab House and Tokio Pub in Schaumburg.

Fork, 4600 N. Lincoln Ave., remains open for business.
