ROSCOE VILLAGE — Left without a homecoming opponent when Whitney Young Magnet High School suddenly pulled the plug on its football season, Lane Tech finally found a foe ready, willing and able to fill the gaping hole in its football schedule.
The school will play itself — unofficially.
Having explored a multitude of options, Lane's official homecoming game will be Wednesday's boys soccer match, school officials announced Monday.
But with so many homecoming traditions tied to football, Lane Tech also devised a way to preserve and celebrate as many of the event's typical trappings as it could.
A seven-on-seven intra-squad touch football scrimmage will take place Friday evening, complete with halftime show.
The scrimmage is only open to Lane Tech students, their families and alumni.
