AVONDALE — An Avondale church is hosting its annual carnival this weekend complete with games, rides and authentic Polish food.

The carnival, held at St. Hyacinth Basilica, 3636 W. Wolfram St., continues at 6 p.m. Friday and also runs Saturday and Sunday.

Food-wise, the carnival is serving Polish favorites like potato pancakes and Bigos, as well as Latin food and pizza. Drinks are served in a beer garden while live music plays.

Each day the carnival closes at 10 p.m, but the opening times vary. The carnival opens at 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Event-goers are encouraged to enter their names into a raffle — with a top prize of $1,000 — before 9 p.m. Sunday. Raffle tickets are available in the parish office or at the carnival.

The church will be open everyday until 8 p.m. during the carnival so event-goers can check out the historic Polish cathedral.
