CHICAGO — The city's nearly snow-free January has given city crews a running start in their annual battle against this year's crop of potholes, city officials said Friday.
More than 56,000 potholes have been filled as of Friday — and complaints about bumpy rides on Chicago's streets are down 18 percent as compared with 2015, officials said.
Potholes are caused when groundwater trapped underneath the pavement freezes and expands.
Chicagoans can track the fight against potholes online, which shows the calls for service and the number of potholes filled during each site visit — and call 311 to report a pothole.
