BRIDGEPORT — There's a lot of buzz brewing around the neighborhood's newest restaurant: Taipei Cafe.
Roll over to the cozy Taiwanese restaurant at 2609 S. Halsted St. to see for yourself. Opened on Jan. 3, serving from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily, Taipei Cafe seems to always be packed.
"We're very busy," said Jimmy Li, the restaurant's manager and part-owner, who grew up in Bridgeport. "I drink three cups of coffee a day. Minimum."
The Taiwanese hotspot's most popular dishes include the oyster omelet ($6.95), braised pork over rice ($6.95) and spicy beef noodle soup ($8.95).
All dishes are cooked by an authentic Taiwanese chef who moved to Chicago from Taipei to cook at the new restaurant.
Another popular dish is Taiwanese sausage topped in onions ($6.95).
And the pork belly gua bao ($4.95).
Taipei Cafe has another treat that many customer take to go: Tea.
There's an entire menu page of options including hot teas like ceylon black tea, jasmine green tea and roasted oolong tea ($2.80 for regular and $3.80 for large), and cold teas like Taipei milk tea and pearl milk tea infused with chewy tapioca bubbles ($3.75 for regular and $4.75 for large).
Taipei Cafe, 2609 S. Halsted St., is open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.
