LINCOLN PARK — A Lincoln Park High School student has landed a one-act play in the 30th Young Playwrights Festival.

Alexandra Obert's "Obsessed" will have its formal debut at 3 p.m. Sunday at Chicago Dramatists, 773 N. Aberdeen St., as part of Pegasus Theatre Chicago's fest showcasing high-school playwrights.

This year's theme was "Assumptions," and the other three winners, who beat out more than 600 aspiring young writers, include Elyssa Saldana of Whitney Young High School, Sejahari Saulter-Villegas of Kenwood Academy and Ricardo Salgado of Lane Tech.

Obert's "Obsessed" concerns a barista who believes he's met the woman of his dreams. Things take a nasty turn, however, when he becomes obsessed with her.

Saldana's "Guarding the Princess" concerns a jealous dragon in love with the princess he's assigned to protect.

Saulter-Villegas' "Race to the Finish" imagines two fatal victims of Chicago police brutality competing in a game show on their way to heaven, making pointed reference to the notion that "All Lives Matter."

Salgado's "Eye See All" finds a conspiracy theorist who drags her brother into investigating a secret society controlling the world.

Pegasus helps the winning playwrights workshop their one-act plays on the way to putting on professional productions of them. They've been in previews since Wednesday, and will run through Jan. 29. The four one-acts run together at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, including previews this weekend, as well as in weekday matinees for students. Tickets are $18-$30, available through Pegasus Theatre.
