HYDE PARK — After a University of Chicago student was punched while trying to reason with two muggers Wednesday night, Chicago Police said Thursday they now believe it was related to another robbery.

Police issued an alert Thursday saying the two men involved in the Wednesday night robbery on 54th Street and Drexel Avenue are now believed to also have been involved in a robbery just minutes before on the 5400 block of South Ingleside Avenue.

Both incidents involved two men getting out of a white van or SUV, surrounding the victim and robbing them.

Police reported both the Ingleside and Drexel robberies happened just minutes after 7 p.m. Wednesday night, but elaborated little on earlier reports from the University of Chicago Police Department.

University police declined provide any description of the alleged robbers or to identify either as men. Chicago Police could not go much further, describing one of the men as between 16-30 years old, about 6-foot-5 and approximately 170 pounds with a medium brown complexion.

In both cases, the men fled in the white van or SUV after the robbery.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call detectives at 312-747-8382.
