DOWNTOWN — Perhaps now more than ever, Trump Tower is a political battleground.

At least on Instagram.

Visitors to Chicago's Trump Tower are offering a fun and definitely informal presidential straw poll Tuesday: Election Day selfies on social media.

The flurry of contrasting celebratory and middle finger posts near Donald Trump's namesake tower illustrate the deepening ideological divides between many American voters following this bruising campaign. It also shows the electorate's growing number of young voters — many of them hitting the polls for the first time Tuesday — making their opinions known ahead of one of the most pivotal elections in recent history.

Chicagoans and tourists have been flipping off Trump Tower on social media for months, but now a growing number of Trump supporters are emerging:

Trump's namesake tower has been a backdrop for opponents' rallies since the firebrand real estate developer entered the presidential race more than a year ago. Such events have ranged from informal demonstrations and joke Facebook events to official campaign stops by the Democratic party.

Though some Illinois Republican officials plan a watch party Tuesday night at Trump Tower, 401 N. Wabash Ave., the luxury hotel on the Chicago River has opted to keep its distance from Trump's often controversial campaign.

A quick count of the posts show a majority of Trump Tower visitors dislike Trump, and early results from states including New Hampshire, Indiana and North Carolina may indicate how the nationwide race will go Tuesday night.

But the pictures are still telling. See for yourself:
