CHICAGO — Cubs fans all around Chicago are rejoicing — and so are the two bronze lion statues guarding the historic western entrance of the Art Institute of Chicago.
The iconic Art Institute lions are wearing Cubs caps to celebrate the baseball team's championship run. The caps were installed Monday morning.
Traditionally, the lions dress up in team helmets or caps when a Chicago sports team qualifies for the championship in its league. In the past, the statues have donned White Sox, Bears and the Blackhawks gear.
The last time the lions were decorated with Cubs gear was in 1984 at a "Lion Cubs" event at the Art Institute entrance, where the bronze creatures were adorned with custom made Cubs baseball caps.
