Cubs Fans Climb Streetlights To Celebrate National League Pennant

WRIGLEYVILLE — Cubs fans party hard.

That much was clear Saturday night, when the Cubs won the National League title for the first time since 1945, and several fans celebrated by climbing streetlights and camera poles.

Onlookers watched the fans climb higher and higher. Some gasped, fearing a fatal fall. Others yelled for the climbers to come back to the street.

Chicago Police did not interfere with the elevated celebration, and fans were able to safely climb down to the street on their own.

After a group of fans climbed a camera pole across the street from John Barelycorn, Chicago Police surrounded the pole with plastic safety horses and a pair of officers stood watch.
