EDGEBROOK — Fall colors are approaching peak vibrancy in Chicago, and few spots in the city offer a better view of the phenomenon than the North Branch Trail.

The trail, fresh off a two-mile extension opened last month, runs about six miles from the Edgebrook neighborhood to Forest Glen.

The entire 18-mile North Branch Trail system winds it way through 18 miles of Cook County Forest Preserve land, connecting Edgebrook to the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe.

It is the Cook County Forest Preserve's most used trail, according to forest preserve general superintendent Arnold Randall.
