CANARYVILLE — For the past six weeks, a group of neighborhood residents has been meeting every Wednesday on the steps of St. Gabriel.
That's where they say the rosary in honor of Chicago Police officers.
"We all have police in our families," said Cheryl Malnarick, a fourth-generation Canaryville resident whose father and two brothers served as police officers.
The group meets at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the church, 4500 S. Wallace St.
Police officers could use prayers now more than ever, Malnarick said.
"Who wants to be a cop nowadays?" Malnarick said of the public scrutiny of police steadily unfolding all over the country.
The neighborhood group will say the rosary rain or shine.
"If it's raining," Malnarick said, "we'll go inside the church."
