NOBLE SQUARE — A food truck named "The Doorstep" run by a trio of Next and Aviary expats opened this week at the Polish Triangle, a pigeon-plagued commuter patch above the underground CTA Blue Line Division station on the Noble Square and Wicker Park border.

"We've been getting a lot of support from the community. Part of our mission is to help clean this area up," said Marie Cinquino, a worker in The Doorstep's trailer, which will be parked year-round at the intersection of Ashland, Milwaukee and Division known as the Polish Triangle.

Cinquino and the truck's chef Izaac Moran previously worked at The Aviary. Another owner, Aaron Feinhandler, worked at Next. Both restaurants are part of the Alinea Group.

The truck draws its name from a 2007 Chicago Reader story that referred to the Polish Triangle as "Wicker Park's Dirty Doorstep," Cinquano said.

The facade of the truck is covered with artificial ivy that appears real from a distance.

"Our mission is to serve great food and be great neighbors," the truck posted on Instagram.

For years, local groups such as the Polish Triangle Coalition and Pulaski Park Neighbors have tried to improve the triangle, which features a Nelson Algren Memorial fountain as its centerpiece.

Early Wednesday, clusters of pigeons were walking across the triangle as a few curious commuters surveyed the menu on the front of the truck.

Breakfast highlights include egg, sausage and bacon sandwiches, avocado toast, and lox and bagels. Drinks include Bow Truss drip hot coffee, cold-brewed Nitro, Mexican sodas and Mighty Leaf teas.

Though "The Doorstep" will eventually serve lunch and dinner, it's only offering breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily during its opening week. Lunch will start next week, Cinquano said.
