SAUGANASH — A garage sale will benefit the family of Chicago Police Officer and PTA leader Kim Walton Zalinski, who died unexpectedly in June.

Zalinski's death left a gaping hole in the fabric of the community surrounding Sauganash Elementary School, where she helped lead the Parent-Teacher Association, friends and teachers said.

Hosted by the Sauganash Elementary School class of 2019, the garage sale is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 23 at 5960 N. Forest Glen Ave.

Donations of toys, Halloween costumes — in honor of Zalinski's love of the spooky holiday — games and books can be dropped off starting at 10 a.m. Friday at 5960 N. Forest Glen Ave., organizer Gina Rizzo said.

Friends raised $16,700 via an online fundraising campaign to help Zalinski's family.

A 19-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, Zalinski, 44, died unexpectedly June 12. She is survived by her husband, Don, who is also an officer, and her son and daughter.

For more information about the sale, email Rizzo at teacher21018@gmail.com.
