CHICAGO — I've been trolled by an electronic billboard.
Command Transportation on Thursday morning devoted its electronic billboard off the Edens Expy. to me with the signage: "Justin Breen's ride into work is now filled with sadness."
The recognition of an electronic billboard makes Justin feel oddly fulfilled.
Dane Olsen, a designer at Command Transportation, tweeted that the message was up all Thursday morning as a thanks for the multiple stories I've written about the sign. The most recent came this week, noting the sign hadn't resorted to its usual celebrity- and sports-mocking ways in months.
Command Transportation tweeted me the sign late Thursday morning. I drove over Thursday afternoon, with my napping 1-year-old in the back seat, to see if it was still there, but it had been replaced by the usual "Echo & Command Loves Truckers" phrase that has been there for months.
The parody signs stopped in October, a few months after Command Transportation, a freight broker, was purchased by Echo Global Logistics for a reported $420 million. The sale was completed on June 1.
The "Command Sign" Twitter account posted five new parody billboards after the sale, but its last one was tweeted Oct. 7.
Later Thursday, Christopher Clemmensen, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Echo Global Logistics, said: "We posted the message on the electronic sign on our Skokie office building to acknowledge that you were disappointed that the billboard has not been active. This was a fun way to begin to add new content. Stay tuned for more postings in the near future."
