IRVING PARK — Barely a year after its much ballyhooed opening, BreakRoom Brewery quietly shuttered over the weekend — but neighbors who've grown accustomed to stopping in for pints and growlers of craft beer needn't despair.

According to a spokesperson, BreakRoom, 2925 W. Montrose Ave., is being acquired by a larger local brewery and should reopen under its new name and owners soon.

No further details about the mystery buyer were provided.

Members of BreakRoom's loyalty club were notified via email of the closing, with May 8 listed as the final date of operations, according to a report in Chicago Eater.

But visitors to the brew pub on Sunday were greeted by a small sign on the door declaring, "We are officially closed."

BreakRoom, 2925 W. Montrose Ave., last updated its Facebook page on May 4 to promote the week's burger-and-a-shot special. No mention was made of the imminent closing.
