HYDE PARK — It’s not too late to sign up for Hyde Park’s biggest bike race of the year, Monsters of the Midway.

The annual race around the Midway Plaisance kicks off early at 8 a.m. May 7 with new races starting every 30-65 minutes until 4:25 p.m.

The races go on rain or shine on a loop around the Midway that’s two-thirds of a mile long. Races last 30-65 minutes and start at Woodlawn Avenue and the east-bound drive of the Midway.

Registration for the early morning races for kids ages 9-14 is $20 online. Registration for men’s and women’s races is $35 online through the University of Chicago Velo Club’s web site.

Prizes range from $15-$120 for the adult races.

Sign-up is also available on the day of race as well.

Both east and westbound lanes of the Midway Plaisance will be closed for the race between Ellis and Dorchester avenues.
