LOGAN SQUARE — Protesters took to the streets to block traffic and speak out against a development currently under construction early Saturday.
The protesters, who were led by Somos Logan Square, set up a blockade at the Twin Towers development construction site, 2293 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to a news release from Somos Logan Square. The group has fought luxury developments and rent increases in the neighborhood, saying families are being priced out.
"How high's the rent?" "Too d--- high!" protesters chanted. Others carried signs calling for an end to gentrification and saying Twin Towers didn't offer enough affordable housing units.
Some of the activists stopped traffic by connecting themselves via buckets and tubes. Police later cut through the tubes to move the protesters while a pastor and other activists cried for them to be careful.
