NORTH PARK — Alumni and supporters of Von Steuben High School are the latest to form a "Friends of" group.
An initial information session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the school, 5039 N. Kimball Ave., to gauge interest, take stock of resources and outline next steps.
Parents and community members have set up nonprofit "Friends of" organizations at numerous CPS schools. Some serve as fundraising juggernauts — bankrolling everything from class trips to teaching positions — while others function in more of a public relations capacity.
At Von Steuben, the "Friends of" is forming to "help address some of the needs that can't be met with existing revenue," Carmen Rodriquez, one of the organizers, posted to Facebook.
